The Americans Who Are Fleeing the United States

In November, Georgia voters re-elected Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene despite her history of anti-Semitic rhetoric; After her re-election, she performed at a gala hosted by the New York Young Republican Club, which included white nationalist Peter Brimelow. America’s most-watched cable TV host is Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, who routinely spews white nationalist rhetoric and praises authoritarian regimes like Vladimir Putin’s Russia and autocratic Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who was one of the keynote speakers last year Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC. And this month, the DeSantis government declined
a nationwide AP African American degree program as “awakened indoctrination.”

Carlson scored the first literal and figurative masked television interview with Chaya Raichik—the former real estate agent behind LibsOfTikTok, who regularly tweets screenshots announcing all-ages drag events and trans-inclusive health services because she knows her followers will be demanding death and bomb threats—in which she called
the LGBTQ community “evil” and a “cult”. Raichik is the same woman who, within hours of a gunman shooting dead a gay bar in Colorado Springs, Colorado,
attacked

a same-state youth drag event on her Twitter and its tweets attacking Boston Children’s Hospital for its transgender care program resulted in it receiving multiple bomb threats.

It is thanks to the “Groomer” smear and false claims that LGBTQ people are pedophiles propagated by the likes of Raichik, Matt Walsh, James Lindsay and Chris Rufo that drag queen storytime and drag Brunch events now routinely feature fascist thugs, sometimes armed. In December, angry protesters, filled with unbridled animal rage, spat poison at a Drag Queen Story Hour event at a library in New York’s LGBTQ neighborhood of Chelsea, and two women were later arrested after attempting to gain entry to gay New York City Councilman Erik Böttcher’s apartment building with “Groomer” and “Predator” written on the sidewalk outside. Meanwhile, dozens of states signed or introduced laws attacking LGBTQ rights, including several banning transgender health care, one in Oklahoma that would make it a criminal offense to perform in women’s clothing in the presence of minors—including drag queen story time—and one inside North Dakota which, according to some interpretations, could allow trans people to be prosecuted for their existence in public.
