In the run-up to World Cancer Day, Sleep Number today announces that it is the proud recipient of the 2022 American Cancer Society (ACS) Corporate Partner of the Year Award. The national award recognizes Sleep Number as a leading supporter in the fight against cancer and his significant impact on ACS’ mission.
On World Cancer Day 2022, Sleep Number and ACS announced a landmark partnership to conduct collaborative research aimed at developing the first-ever sleep guidelines for cancer patients and survivors. Over the next five years, ACS will leverage Sleep Number’s proprietary sleep data and sleep expertise in its research to determine the impact of quality sleep on cancer prevention and cure. In addition, Sleep Number supports ACS’ Hope Lodges, which provide Sleep Number® smart beds and other sleep innovations to support patients and caregivers when they need to stay away from home during treatment.
According to Dave Benson, ACS executive vice president, North Region, “Sleep Number exemplifies what ACS is hoping to find from partners. We honor partners who go above and beyond and use every facet of their influence to support our mission. Working with Sleep Number to develop new data and advance the science to fight cancer is incredible. We are very grateful for the partnership with Sleep Number.”
“We are honored to partner with the American Cancer Society and help end cancer as we know it for everyone,” said Shelly Ibach, Chair, President and CEO of Sleep Number. “Previous ACS research and policy—like that on nutrition and tobacco—have had an indelible impact on all of our health. Our collaborative research on sleep and cancer will add to this remarkable body of evidence. If sleep can play even a small role in cancer prevention – or, more importantly, in improving the quality of life of a patient, caregiver or survivor – we have truly lived our goal of improving the health and well-being of society.”
“Sleep Number’s commitment to our mission directly helps patients and their caregivers by strengthening their emotional, mental, and physical health, which results in an improved quality of life,” said Dr. Karen E Knudsen, Chief Executive Officer, American Cancer Society. “Together, our teams are developing a deeper understanding of the impact of good sleep on cancer prevention and healing. We share a passion for improving life and have laid an excellent foundation for what’s next: improving sleep outcomes for cancer patients and survivors.”
In addition to their research partnership, Sleep Number works with ACS on various initiatives to further their commitment to the Society’s mission, including:
-
In partnership with NFL Crucial Catch and ACS, Sleep Number will host ACS’ Defender, a digital cancer risk assessment tool, in its content studio at the Super Bowl LVII Media Center. Defender uses a simple quiz to promote cancer awareness and prevention and will be available for media, gamers and radio listeners to assess their cancer risk. For each full Defender assessment between February 6th and February 20th, Sleep Number will match a donation of $100, up to $50,000, to ACS. Participants have the chance to win a Sleep Number 360® p5 smart bed or autographed jerseys by Justin Jefferson, Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons.
-
Today, Sleep Number 360 is also donating® smart beds, including the new Climate360™ smart bed, and linens for Hope Lodge in Charleston, SC – ACS’ first-ever Hope Lodge and the first facility of its kind in the country for cancer patients and caregivers.
-
Sleep Number continues to support the Champions of Hope Gala, an annual event benefiting ACS. In 2022, the event raised more than $500,000 to support ACS mission and work, including the operating expenses of the Minnesota Hope Lodges in Minneapolis and Rochester.
-
Shelly Ibach, a passionate advocate for ACS’ mission, serves as Chair of the Society’s CEOs Against Cancer Minnesota chapter, bringing the business community together to improve the lives of people living with cancer and their families through research and support and advocacy for patients and caregivers .
