Ann C. Krauter – InForum

Ann Krauter 98 of Fargo entered eternal life on January 15, 2023

Anna was born on February 24, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Mike and Christine (Schiff) Grundhauser and was baptized at St. Agatha Catholic Church. Anna was given the baptismal name of her grandmother, Anna Loh. In the fall of 1926, Mike and Christine returned with their family to the Grundhauser homestead in Stark County.

At the age of 9, Anna celebrated her first Holy Communion and Confirmation at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Lefor, North Dakota. She was inspired to her Catholic faith by her teacher, a Benedictine nun from Crookston, MN.

Anna graduated from the 8th grade at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic School in Lefor, North Dakota. After the unexpected death of her mother, Anna stayed home at the age of 12 to help her father raise her two brothers.

Ann caught the eye of husband Adam at the dances at Bayer Hall and Verin’s Hall in Lefor. They were married on June 3, 1941 at St Elizabeth’s Church, Lefor. Together they farmed for 45 years.

Ann was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Christian Mothers Society and the “Six plus Six” Homemakers Club in her neighborhood.

Ann was a devout Catholic and a staunch member of St Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Lefor while in her retirement years lived on the farm and at the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson.

Her favorite pleasures in life were sewing, baking, and most importantly, dancing waltzes, polkas, and pods with Adam on Saturday nights. Ann had the German-Hungarian cooking and baking skills that were a highlight at family celebrations. Favorites included Sunday soup, chicken or beef peppers, bean soup and strudel, freshly baked rolls and buns, and a Tupperware full of chocolate chip cookies.

In their retirement years, Adam and Ann traveled many miles in their RV to visit relatives and friends in the United States. Seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought great joy to Ann.

After the death of her husband in 2005, Ann remained in Dickinson until 2012, when she moved to the Riverview Catholic Health Initiatives retirement community in Fargo to be closer to her family.
