ACC releases 2023 football schedule

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WTVD)– The Atlantic Coast Conference announced its 2023 football schedule Monday night, the first in a new format.
Gone are the much-maligned Atlantic and Coastal Divisions. Under the new model, each team plays three main opponents and meets the other 10 league teams twice during a four-year cycle.
The top two teams based on win percentage will play in the ACC Championship Game on the first Saturday of December.
“As a conference, we are very excited to begin the new scheduling model which offers significant improvements – the most important being the opportunity for our student-athletes to play both home and away at each school over a four-year period,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “The new model is also in the best interests of our schools, fans and the conference as a whole. Aside from the incredibly competitive league schedule, our teams will once again face what is arguably the toughest collection of non-conference opponents yet. There is always great anticipation for the annual release of the ACC Football Schedule and 2023 is no exception.”
The ACC will play 11 non-conference games against teams ranked in the Associated Press’s latest 2022 top 25 poll, the league said.
The season kicks off with a bang with five days of football over Labor Day weekend – 12 games in that five-day span.
This track begins on August 31st, a Thursday, with Wake Forest where Elon is a guest. On Friday, September 1, Louisville meets Georgia Tech while Miami hosts Miami (Ohio) in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Saturday’s games include the Duke’s Mayo Classic in Charlotte between North Carolina and South Carolina and Virginia versus Tennessee in Nashville. NC State is also in action, traveling to UConn.
The Labor Day football frenzy ends Monday night when Duke Clemson hosts.
The 2023 ACC Championship Game will be played on December 2 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
