Goddard Girls 7th in the conflict in Cleveland; Roswell Boys 6th in the Academy Invitational
The Goddard High and Roswell High School wrestling teams competed in two wrestling events in Albuquerque on Saturday and the results are in.
Goddard Wrestling competed in the Conflict at Cleveland and the Lady Rockets finished seventh out of 33 teams in the tournament.
Goddard’s sophomore Kylee Sisneros placed second in the 145-pound weight class by defeating Robertson High senior Liana Fernandez in the fall. Sophomore Sayra Hernandez finished fourth, losing to Socorro senior Alexandra Martinez by fall in the third-place playoff in the 152-pound weight class. Freshman Karlee Patterson placed fifth after defeating Rio Rancho’s eighth grader Ava Gomez in the 185-pound weight class. Sophomore Emily Madrid-Kane placed fourth in the 235-pound weight class, losing to Volcano Vista senior Jordyn Yazzie in the third-place playoff.
The Roswell Lady Coyotes finished 17th overall in Cleveland with 32 team points. Roswell senior Neriah Martin placed fifth in the 107-pound weight class, defeating Capital senior Alyssa Sandoval in the fall.
The Goddard Boys Wrestling Team placed 26th out of 33 teams. Goddard senior Aidan Werts placed sixth in the 189-pound weight class, losing by decision to Farmington’s junior Isaac Foutz.
The Roswell High Boys wrestling team finished 19th overall but had no Cleveland rankings. Freshman Nathaniel Lujan had 15 team points, followed by senior Kelvin Alarcon with 12 points, sophomore Luis Godoy with nine points, and sophomore Keegan Nichols with seven points.
Roswell High Boys also attended Albuquerque Academy High School’s Academy Invitational. The Coyotes finished sixth overall with 101.5 team points.
Coyotes student Charles Martinito defeated Los Lunas student Zachary Jacquez by key decision to take third place in the 107-pound weight class. Freshman Essiah Avita defeated Los Lunas junior Deven Aguilar in the fall to take another third-place finish in the 133-pound class. Sophomore Andrew Padilla placed fourth in the 139-pound weight class, losing to Valley High junior Daniel Valdez in the fall third-place game. Sophomore Jesus Leyva finished fourth in the 160lb weight class after losing by decision to La Cueva senior Richard Hollingshead. Sophomore Luis Tejeda ranked fourth after losing by decision in the 172-pound weight class to Academy freshman Zach Waghorn. Freshman Davian Gonzales finished fourth in the 189-pound weight class, losing to Highlands senior Rocky Romero in the fall.
The Roswell High School wrestling team will be hosting the Ruidoso Dual in the Roswell High School gymnasium today, and Goddard High School will travel to Santa Teresa High School for a wrestling meet.
