Art, music and lungfish: A look at 7 activities this weekend

By the time this weekend rolls around, Punxsutawney Phil will have made his prediction as to when winter will end. While his prediction is highly anticipated, there’s no word on who this groundhog meteorologist predicts will win the Super Bowl.

The National Museum of Nuclear Science and History continues its Science on Tap series on Friday, February 3 at 6 p.m

Irene Salinas Remiro will speak on “In and Out of Your Cocoon: The Tribulations of the African Lungfish and Its Immune Systems” at the Museum, 601 Eubank Blvd. SE.

Tickets for the event for those 21 and older are $5 and include a drink ticket for a beer from Bombs Away Beer Company. Additional beer and wine will be available for sale.

Happy sewing

The Las Colcheras Quilt Guild hosts the Spring Fling Quilt Show in Las Cruces.

The two-day event will take place on Friday, February 3rd and Saturday, February 4th from 9am to 5pm.

The show, held at the Las Cruces Convention Center, 680 University Ave., will feature judging quilts, special exhibits, demonstrations, vendors and more.

Admission is $7 for one day and $12 for two days, and children under 12 are free.

Open up the band

The Albuquerque Concert Band performs Sunday, February 5 at 3 p.m.

The free concert will be held at the George Nason Performing Arts Center at Eldorado High School, 11300 Montgomery Blvd. NO.

Los Lobos!

The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team will play the San Diego State Aztecs in the pit on Saturday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m. The Lobos were narrowly defeated by the Aztecs on the road on January 19th, so we pack the pit and rally behind our ladies in cherry and silver.

An annual affair

The Weems Gallery and Framing indoor pavement sale starts at 10am on Saturday 4th February.

The event, which runs Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm through February 11, features works by local artists at prices of 40% or more.

To go for a walk

The ABQ Artwalk will take to the streets in downtown Albuquerque on Friday, February 3 from 5-9 p.m.

This month’s featured artist is Beedallo, who blends cartoons with traditional folk art. The event also features puppetry, live music, additional artists and more.

The Adobe Theater invites you to attend The Dinner Party.

Neil Simon’s play brings five people together for a mysterious dinner party in Paris.

The curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 3; 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, February 4; and Sunday, February 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $15 to $24 plus fees at adobetheater.org. The Adobe Theater is located at 9813 Fourth St. NW.
