Fairmont 12U girls hockey wins Shannon Cup event | News, Sports, Jobs

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 12U girls’ hockey team racked up four straight victories to win the Rochester Shannon Cup Tournament championship last weekend in Rochester.

Fairmont came to an 11-0 opening decision over River Falls, ran to a 6-1 second-round win over the St. Paul Capitals, shut out Owatonna with a 3-0 semifinal score and pushed Rochester in the finals with an 8th :1 off. 2 points.

Lexi Haycraft scored a hat-trick and added an assist, while Lauren Bettin scored and earned a playmaker by dishing out three assists in Fairmont’s 11-0 win over River Falls.

Mariel Parish and Kynlee Beemer amassed two goals each for Fairmont, Halyn Haycraft had a goal and an assist, while Maya Earhart and Kylie Flanagan had one each.

Netminder Lexi Sundeen made eight stops to earn the win for Fairmont, who had 36 shots on target.

Lexi Haycraft scored another hat trick and Parish scored two goals in Fairmont’s 6-1 second-round decider against the St. Paul Capitals.

Corinn Wells dealt two assists in the win, Bettin added a goal and an assist while Flanagan added an assist.

Sundeen earned the win by saving 22 shots for Fairmont, who made 19 shots at the net.

Sundeen then made six saves to earn a shutout while Bettin netted two shots to lead Fairmont to a 3-0 semifinal win over Owatonna.

Lexi Haycraft gave out three assists and Earhart scored a goal.

Parish and Lexi Haycraft each delivered three goals, with Haycraft also dishing up an assist to lead Fairmont to an 8-2 triumph over Rochester in the championship game.

Bettin contributed two goals and an assist in the win, while Kennedy Murphy, Avert Kurt, Paige Hartwig, Earhart, Beemer and Halyn Haycraft all provided an assist.

Sundeen made 15 saves to earn the win for Fairmont, who fired 40 shots at the net.

Fairmont 12U (28-3-1) plays host to Mankato at Martin County Arena in Fairmont on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. before traveling to Kasson for a clash against Dodge County on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

The Fairmont PeeWee ‘B’ team earned a split decision during the ice action last weekend.

Preston Geerdes scored four goals and an assist to lead Fairmont’s 9-6 win over Luverne last Saturday.

Kane Wohlhuter scored a hat-trick and a helper for Fairmont, Tyler Pankow contributed two goals while goaltender Kolton Hinz made 18 saves for the win.

New Ulm/Sleepy Eye then defeated Fairmont 6:5 last Sunday.

Geerdes scored another hat-trick and dished out a helper, while Pankow carded a goal and an assist.

Lucas Kotewa scored one goal, Luther Malo shared two assists, Ian Obernolte shared an assist and goalkeeper Blake Thompson saved 11 shots on goal.

The Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ squad recorded a win and a loss during weekend action at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Ryder Thate scored five goals and Van Kollofski scored a hat-trick to lead Fairmont to a 13-4 win over New Ulm/Sleepy Eye last Sunday.

Bennett Draper scored twice while Cheston Aust, Emmet Olson and Eli Meixell all scored one goal.

Netminder Blakeley Scholl made 15 saves to give Fairmont the win.

Luverne beat Fairmont 4-3 last Saturday at Fairmont.

Thate scored two goals, Draper scored one and Kollofski made 24 saves between the whistles.

The Fairmont hosts Windom on Saturday noon at the Martin County Arena before traveling to the ice arena at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter on Sunday for a game against Minnesota River at 3:45 p.m.

The Carlson Dental Bantams went 1-1 in ice action last weekend.

Gavin Kester scored a hat-trick and Klay Beemer added two more goals in Fairmont’s 6-4 win over Redwood Valley last Saturday.

Bryce Ihrke provided a goal, Preston Cepress shared two assists and Hunter Olson added an assist.

Goalie Brandon Hector made 19 saves for Carlson Dental, who had 51 shots on target.

Waseca defeated Fairmont 5-3 in Waseca last Friday night.

Dayton Draper and Kester each collected a goal and an assist, Jase Meade scored a goal and Hunter Thate dished an assist.

Kaden Olson recorded 34 saves for Carlson Dental, who fired 23 shots at the net.

The Carlson Dental Bantams (10-13) play host to Windom on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and Worthington on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Martin County Arena.
