Local athletes honored for strong academics by MASCAC

WESTFIELD — A total of 1,218 student-athletes were honored with selection to the league’s Fall/Winter 2022 All-Academic team by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Eligible are student-athletes who compete in championship sports offered by each of the MASCAC institutions during the course of the 2022 fall winter sports season and have achieved a cumulative or semester-based grade point average of 3.20 during the semester.

Duo honored: Fitchburg State junior Makany Camara (Lowell) was named Indoor Athlete of the Week by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.

She placed second in the high jump (1.52m) at the Wesleyan Indoor Invite. The league also named FSU freshman Liam Bourassa (Shirley) as the men’s indoor track rookie of the week. He won the shot put (13.01 meters) while adding a seventh place (10.98 meters) in the weight throw.
