Good Morning, It’s Thursday February 2nd, 2023 and THIS is your Eye On Annapolis Daily News Brief presented by Annapolis Subaru and the Anne Arundel County SPCA.

Governor Moore delivered his first State of the State address yesterday. If you missed it, we’ll pin it to the end of this DNB. It’s about 45 minutes long. OK, we’ve got some news, so let’s get started, shall we?

Bad news for Kia and Hyundai owners. Well, some of them anyway. Police are warning owners of these cars to remove phone chargers and USB cables from the vehicles. Why? because of a tik tok challenge going around across the country showing how to short circuit and steal cars with the usb cable. The police recommend a brake pad beater or a car alarm. And the State Farm and Progressive insurance companies are now refusing to insure them. Models are 2011 to 2021 Kia Soul and Sorrento, and Hyundai Tuscon and Elantra. Both Kia and Hyundai are working to address the situation.

You’ll hear lots of bells ringing at midnight on Saturday night – as the seniors at St. John’s College graduate. Traditionally, seniors turn in essays at the President’s house, then return to campus to hear a single chime at a time in McDowell Hall’s clock tower. The bell should be rung by 1:30 am.

And later this month, if you have a honey do list or a wish list for your home, the Annapolis Homeowners Expo is back on February 25th and 26th at the Byzantium Center on Riva Road. HGTV’s Matt Blashaw will be there along with about 80 vendors – they’ve added wine tastings and a really cool seminar for any homeowner from a local home inspector on knowing how your home is built so you can avoid problems can before they become…well, problematic. Tickets are only $5 and are available at TheHomeownersExpo.com

And one more event…. we all know that on February 12th the SuperBowl will be held in Glendale, Arizona… Go Eagles! But even here in Annapolis there is a Soup Er Bowl. For the 17th year, the Heritage Baptist Church is hosting a free soup bowl featuring delicious creations from guest chefs and a real On Chef, Zachary Pope! They ask for donations but they are not required and 100% of the money raised is used to support the lighthouse. The gig is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., so there’s still plenty of time to get wings and get home to strike the right deal — and the Heritage is located at 1740 Forest Drive in Annapolis — quite a bit shabby corner and across forest drive the safe way!

OK, that’s all the news I have! Podcast Stuff – This Weekend’s Spotlight for Local Business, Geeks on God – does that pique your interest?

And that IS a wrap. As always, thank you all for being there. And thank you to the sponsors of today’s Daily News Brief – Annapolis Subaru, the Anne Arundel County SPCA, Solar Energy Services, WTMD and Alpha Engineering!

OK now you gotta hold on tight because we have George from DCMDVA Weather with the only local weather forecast you will find and of course Trevor is here with your Annapolis Makerspace Maker Minute. All of this comes in just a little bit.
