College roundup: Lewiston native Cole Ouellette earns hockey conference honor

Lewiston native Cole Ouellette, a junior defenseman for the University of Southern Maine men’s hockey team, was named to the New England Hockey Conference’s weekly honors roll Monday.

Ouellette earned his place on the honors roll after scoring and assisting twice in the Huskies’ 4-3 win over Elmira College on Saturday.

The former Lewiston High School and Maine Nordiques standout leads USM with 10 assists, which is sixth-best in the NEHC. Add his two goals from the blue line and Ouellette sits second in the Huskies’ squad with 12 points.

UMAINE’S SMITH FETED AGAIN: University of Maine second forward Adrianna Smith was named America East Player of the Week for the second year in a row after scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds in Maine’s 71-54 win over Maryland-Baltimore County.

Smith also had five assists while hitting 11 of 19 buckets from the floor. It was also her ninth double-double of the season, leading America East. She averages 27.0 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game in conference play.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
CMCC 84, VERMONT TECH 65: Boston Caldwell scored 13 of his best 20 points in the first half as the Mustangs (10-3, 6-1 YSCC) passed the Knights (4-12, 3-4 YSCC) at Randolph Center, Vermont.

Leavitt graduate Wyatt Hathaway threw in 12 of his 17 points before halftime for Central Maine, who led 47-32 at the break. Cam Pollock and Mpore Semuhoza each had 13 points, and Lewiston grad Malik Foster was among the Mustangs’ top rebounders with six boards.

Jaylon Calvin led Vermont Tech by 18 points.
