Endicott Man Admits Threatening Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene

A Broome County resident faces up to five years in prison after admitting he threatened to harm Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Federal authorities said Endicott’s Joseph Francis Morelli, 51, pleaded guilty Wednesday to leaving threatening messages on the voicemail of a Washington office of a congressman.
A large contingent of law enforcement officials, including the FBI, raided Morelli’s Oak Hill Avenue apartment before dawn on March 17. Armored vehicles had been stationed in a Watson Boulevard parking lot for about an hour before driving to the building several blocks away.

Morelli was taken into custody without incident. He had been accused of transmitting interstate threats.
Morelli left seven threatening messages at Taylor Greene’s congressional office in DC on March 3rd and 4th last year, according to an affidavit.
In one, Morelli is said to have identified himself and given his phone number. Then he said, “You’ve got one hell of a mouth, and I’m going to show you what violence is really about.”
In one recording, the man who said he was Morelli was satisfied he could “pay someone $500 to take a baseball bat and break your skull in.” He added, “You’re going to get the fuck physically hurt.”
In a previous voicemail, the caller said, “I just don’t think I can let you continue, you know, inflicting hatred and poison on people.”

Taylor Greene is a Republican representing Georgia’s 14th congressional district. Her pronouncements on a variety of issues have made her one of the most controversial members of the House of Representatives.
As part of his guilty plea, Morelli admitted to making a series of threatening phone calls to Taylor Greene’s office.

After Morelli’s arrest, people who knew him said they were surprised to learn that he was accused of threatening Taylor Greene.
Morelli is scheduled to be sentenced on June 1. In addition to a five-year prison sentence, he could face a fine of up to $250,000.
