UAB football coach Trent Dilfer announces eight signees on Wednesday

UAB soccer coach Trent Dilfer almost put the finishing touches on his first recruiting course on Wednesday.

Eight players, all from high school, signed national letters of intent on National Signing Day. Another is expected, but it likely won’t come until Thursday morning. Sixteen players signed in December and 10 more scholarship recipients enrolled in the school mid-year. All together and Dilfer currently has 34 additions to his first roster.

Many wishes were fulfilled, especially on the offensive and defensive. UAB added three offensive linemen and four defensive linemen on Wednesday. Overall, the Blazers brought in six offensive linemen and eight players who will play on the defensive line.

Dilfer said the key to bringing in a quality class is approach.

“I’m more impressed with the people in the building every day,” said Dilfer. “I really think the kids saw that. When the children came into our building, they were amazed by the fact that a strong foundation was laid here. We have great facilities, we have great resources. But, more importantly, they all talked about how they looked, how the staff got along, how it felt like family, how honest we were with them. I think the best thing that came out of recruitment was that there was no sales pitch. The conversation about recruitment wasn’t, “What are we selling?” Who are you, who are we? Let’s make sure they see that and it’s authentic.”
