Man Arrested On Drunken Driving Charges After Crash: NHSP Roundup

CONCORD, NH — A man from Plymouth, Massachusetts died Tuesday after an accident in Ossipee, according to the New Hampshire State Police.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., a vehicle traveling around Pine River Pond Road on northbound Route 16 crossed the centerline and collided with a vehicle traveling in the south lane. The driver, Kevin P. Buote, 58, of Plymouth, MA, died at the scene, said Amber Lagace, the state police public information officer. A passenger was also taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

“The driver of the northbound vehicle was also taken to a local hospital for treatment and an assessment of injuries,” she said.

The New Hampshire State Police were field assisted by the Ossipee Police Department, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Center Ossipee Fire Department, Ossipee Corner Fire Department, Wakefield Ambulance, Wakefield Fire Department and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

Lagace said the cause of the crash is being investigated.

Cops pursue driver 2 miles after DWI crash

An Ackworth man was arrested on multiple charges after a drunk driving accident in Unity on Saturday.

At around 9:15 p.m., soldiers were dispatched to Unity Springs Road to report an accident. The caller informed dispatchers that a vehicle had crashed into a tree and the driver had fled, Lagace said.

When cops and Newport Police arrived, they found a Volkswagen Passat with severe frontal damage, but the driver was nowhere to be found.

“An investigation revealed that shortly before the accident, the suspect vehicle had overtaken another vehicle on a double yellow line in poor weather conditions, which directly caused the vehicle to lose control and crash,” she said. “Officers and soldiers quickly found a series of footprints in the snow and followed them for about two miles until they ended in a wooded area off Gilman Pond Road in Unity.”

A man later identified as James Brandt, 54, of Ackworth, was found but charged with refusing to cooperate with police or identifying himself – “but was eventually identified as the driver of the vehicle involved,” said Lagace.

Brandt was charged with drunk driving, conduct after an accident, reckless operation and disobedience to an officer. He was released on personal credit and is expected in Newport District Court on February 14.

The Unity fire department assisted the state police.
