Harry revealed in “Spare” that he and William were not each other’s best man at their respective royal weddings
First in a brief chapter on William and Kate’s wedding, and again when reminiscing about his own wedding, Harry mentions that he is not William’s best man. Harry explains in his memoir that his older brother made two of his friends groomsmen before the palace later claimed – in a “blatant lie” – that Harry was given the duties.
Harry later recalled how William canceled drinks with him and his friends “at the last minute” on the eve of his wedding to Meghan Markle in 2018.
“I was wondering what’s really going on,” Harry recalled when William reportedly canceled (via Harper’s Bazaar). “Did he feel bad about not being my best man? Was he upset that I asked my old pal Charlie?”
“The palace spread the story that Willy was the best man, as they did to me when he and Kate got married,” Harry added in parentheses. “Could that be part of it?” he concluded.
