Lehi Sports Park opens in Mesa

Lehi Sports Park recently opened at 2228 N. Center St. in Mesa.

“The parks and community facilities at Mesa are second to none, and the new fields at Lehi Sports Park will be very popular,” Mayor John Giles said in a press release. “I appreciate the voters who approved the bond that helped make this park a reality because they supported the City of Mesa’s investment in the quality of life in our community.”

Funding for the Lehi Sports Park comes from the voter-approved 2018 General Commitment Bond and a grant from the Salt River Pima-Maricopa community of India.

Lehi Sports Park has five multi-sport fields primarily used for soccer with a donated MuscoVision camera between fields 1 and 2 for live video streaming via an app at muscovision.com/facility/44806. The sports fields have LED lighting with minimal light scatter outside the park boundary, although the lights are only on when the fields are being played on. The fields can only be used after prior reservation.

“This city and its public spaces are very close to my heart,” Councilor Mark Freeman said in the release. “This welcoming, well-appointed space will be a place where Mesa residents can gather with their families and friends to play, watch, and enjoy soccer games and other sporting events.”

The City of Mesa acquired lots along Center Street in 2002 and the remaining lots for the athletic fields in 2019. The city also purchased a vacant 2.3-acre lot northeast of the park for future development.

“Lehi Sports Park is a tremendous asset to the city, and I applaud the effort and care that our Parks and Recreation associates put into all of our parks, community facilities and recreational programs,” said Jacob Martinez, Chair of the Parks and Recreation Advisory board, in the press release. “I really appreciate that they included input from Lehi residents to create a world-class facility for our children to enjoy.”
